Tail high, front leg raised, he’s frozen stiff while you and your buddy move past him when the birds explode from under foot. A pair of ruffed grouse rocket skyward through the branches. Time slows; it’s all instinct and timing now. You click off the safety of your Franchi 720 and lock onto the closest bird. When the butt touches your shoulder, a puff of feathers follow. A rotating bolt head is at the heart of all of the ultra-reliable Franchi autoloaders. The rotating bolt head locks bank vault tight into the barrel extension. The stress of firing is confined to the barrel and bolt, allowing a lighter receiver.
